Gutsy cinema that breaks new ground
POLAND | 123 minutes | 2016
Polish filmmaker Jan P. Matuszynski looks at life with the Beksin?ski family and its flamboyantly oddball but strangely likeable artists. There’s Zdzis?aw Beksin?ski, Polish surrealist painter of decaying bodies with a penchant for S&M. There’s his son Tomasz, neur- otic and suicidal, a cult DJ and renowned translator. And there’s Zofia, wife and mother, who tries to keep things together as best she can. After his documen- tary Deep Love, Jan P. Matuszynski serves up a first feature-length biopic that rides alongside Poland’s pop culture icons, showing them as strangely moving behind their colourful façades.
