The great names in cinema
AUSTRIA | 90 minutes | 2016
A passion for big game hunting and some terrifying admissions. Seidl continues his exploration of our modern world. After addressing the fraught subject of sex tourism in Paradis: amour, the Austrian filmmaker trains his sights on a different kind of tourism, the one where Europeans spend a small fortune to hunt game in various African locations. As they appear on camera one after another, trapped in the director’s usual static, front-framed shots, some disarming portraits emerge alongside the hunting trophies. Seidl is a genius at portraying the weird ins and outs of contemporary society, stripped of artifice.
