Experimentation. Transcendence. Rapture.
SPAIN, Morocco, France, Qatar | 96 minutes | 2016
Mimosas follows two rogues as they transport a body in an epic journey through the Sahara. A dying sheik has but one wish: to be buried in his ancestral plot in Morocco’s High Atlas mountains. But he dies on the way and the caravan drivers refuse to carry the body to its destination. Two roguish types, Daid and Ahmed, take charge of the mission while, in a parallel universe, Shakib is entrusted with keeping an eye on them. Described by director Olivier Laxe as a “religious western,” Mimosas won the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at Cannes.
