QUEBEC, Canada | 183 minutes | 2016

Québec’s “Maple Spring” is the backdrop for the story of four activists who take matters into their own hands to bring about social change. After the memorable Laurentie (2011), the Denis/Lavoie duo are back with a feature-length drama liberally inspired by the 2012 student protests in Quebec. Building on their favourite theme — civic engagement — the two filmmakers question the scope and impact of militancy in a neoliberal era. Their new work, set to the backdrop of the “Maple Spring” (a play on Arab Spring), reiterates the need for youth involvement in social causes to bring about any sort of lasting paradigm shift.
