SOUTH KOREA | 86 minutes | 2016

A painter wandering around looking for his girlfriend spots her doppelgangers at every turn. Hong Sang-soo at his best. The South Korean director is in a class of his own when it comes to exploring tumultuous relationships. For his 18th feature, he applies his keen sense of observation to deliver a new, Bressoninfluenced modern romance built around the strange behaviour of characters in the grip of major turmoil. To explore the question of harmony, relationships and why we’re apparently wired for discord, Sang-soo uses a conceit popular in Asian cinema: the doppelganger, or double of a living person.
